What if the tooth crown comes off? We are here to guide and fix it up!.
Have your dental crown loosened or fallen out into your mouth, Don’t panic!! It’s a common dental issue which can be resolved with prompt and immediate professional care.
“Keep the crown safe” Inspect the crown to see if any portion is broken. Clean it up with soap and water and secure it in a container to carry until you visit us.
Watch what you eat! : Do not eat foods which are hard, crunchy until the crown is attached.
Ring us for an appointment to fix it up : We will assess and find out the cause and recommend the best course of action if it can be reattached or make a new crown.
If the crown or teeth are intact, the crown can be reattached with a cement. If teeth is broken or crown is damaged, its not advisable to reattach. Sometimes in addition, a procedure called crown lengthening may be needed.
Crown lengthening : It’s a procedure to increase the crown height for better retention of the new crown. Its usually done under local anesthesia and after the healing period, the measurements are taken for new crown and refixed.
These are the reasons for crown getting dislodged?
- Weakened teeth
- Decay of the teeth beneath the crown
- Eating sticky foods
- Teeth grinding or clenching
- Aging or wear and tear
Do's :
Regular tooth brushing twice daily and use of floss or interdental brush may prevent food accumulation beneath the crown. Wear an mouthgard if teeth grinding habit is present. Periodic check-up of the crowns.
Dont's :
Avoid chewing ice, avoid sticky and hard foods.
